TROUT LAKE B.C.

Jewel of the Kootenays

FISHING

For people who would like to try their luck at fishing, Trout Lake  is especially good from April to October when the lake yields very  large Rainbow Trout, some in the 9 kg. (20 lbs.) range. Other fish  species include Bull Trout, Burbot (Freshwater Cod) and Char.

Staubart  Lake is another fishing lake close to Trout Lake, located just to the north-west  on Hwy 31.  Here you can find Dolly Varden, Brook and Bull Trout.  There is a rustic campground present  and a place to launch a car-top style boat.

ATV TOURING & HIKING

Trout Lake and surrounding areas offer some spectacular opportunities for ATV tours and hiking.  Because of the significant mining activity in the past, there are many roads and trails still open providing access to old mine sites, ghost towns, beautiful alpine scenery and more.   Below is just a sample of the sights to see.

SNOWMOBILING, SKIING & SNOWBOARDING

The heavy winter snowfall (Up to 30 feet per year) turns Trout Lake into a mecca for winter activities.  Some of the finest alpine snowmobile areas in the country are available within a few Kms. of Trout Lake. You can get away from the busy areas and usually find fresh powder snow at altitudes above 7,000 Ft.    As well as the local Helicopter Ski and Cat Ski operations, there is also excellent back country skiing and snowboarding. (Usually accessed by snowmobile)
